THE CROSS SEASON COULD NOT HAVE HAD A BETTER START FOR MARIANNE VOS. SHE TOOK THE VICTORY IN THE WORLD CUP RACE IN WATERLOO (UNITED STATES) ON SUNDAY EVENING (UTC+1, DUTCH TIMEZONE). ALSO INGE VAN DER HEIJDEN HAD A GREAT DAY, RESULTING IN A NINTH PLACE (AND SECOND IN THE U23 CLASSIFICATION).

Marianne already got ahead in the first lap, together with Ellen Noble. “The lap felt good, but was nevertheless challenging due to the heat and the short climbs. Noble raced very strong and I noticed I could not make a difference. I did know, however, that I would have a chance in the final lap on the last slope. I decided to stay in her wheel and to wait for the right moment. On that last stretch, I took a couple of meters and could fortunately stay ahead until the finish line”, says the proud winner.

“It was a special atmosphere and, of course, a different preparation for a cross than usual. In the past week, I have had a lot of distraction, together with Inge, her father, and my father and brother. We have made our own home in a house, which has been nice. We will take it easy in the coming days. On Thursday, we will leave for Iowa City for Saturday’s World Cup.”
